Guiding Principles for Setup
| Best Practices |
| Think big, start small. |
ConservationTrack can eventually be a part of most of a land trust functions. Although it may be appealing to want to do it all at once, this can often create long delays. The right starting point is one that can be done right now. |
| Pick a starting point that is easy to adopt even if it is not your greatest organizational need. |
It is very appealing to try to use ConservationTrack to solve the most immediate needs of your organization. In our experience, it is far better to find a module that will be most easily adopted. Sometimes but not often these are the same. Becoming familiar with the system early on will facilitate adapting it to your needs as you expand its use. |

| Lessons Learned |
|
Software is not a panacea for an organizations problems.
|
One of the biggest reasons that ConservationTrack is offered as a solution (i.e. software, consulting, support, training, and hosting) is because software alone does not fix problems.
Ultimately, using the software will facilitate organizational improvement because when an organization adopts the software, that adoption drives improved processes within the organization. Hence, ADOPTION IS KEY.
|
| Do not let "perfect" be the enemy of "good enough" (put another way do not get into "analysis paralysis"). |
Too often we see organizations over-think every last detail. One of the biggest benefits of ConservationTrack is its flexibility. Start with the simplest configuration that meets the initial requirements. |
